What injury did you sustain?
I rolled my vehicle on the way home and had a left scapular fracture and a left open ankle dislocation.
When did this injury occur?
12/4/2011
How long was the recovery process?
6 months
What provided you the motivation and drive to press on through the difficult times after sustaining the injury?
Nobody wants to stay hurt and even though it is very frustrating not being able to do the things you enjoy, keeping a positive attitude will only speed up the recovery process. Being in the hospital for 9 days was an experience I never thought I’d have to endure and one i definitely do not want to go through again so the time spent there really motivated me to rehab diligently so i wouldn’t end up back in there with more surgeries down the road.
How did the injury you sustained shape your character in who you are today?
Definitely much more careful when I’m driving and don’t take things for granted because while I was lucky, some people aren’t and you have to remember that things can change in an instant with no warning whatsoever. I’ve also taken more time to enjoy the little things in life because during my recovery I was more or less stuck in a wheelchair or a bed for 3 months and if you can’t enjoy the little things and keep a positive attitude you’ll make yourself go crazy.
Since the injury, how has life changed for you?
I walk a lot slower and my ankle hurts all the time, but my shoulder is great! Just a few scars to remind me how lucky I am.
