What injury did you sustain?
My accident was caused from a lawn mower. I slipped and my left foot went under the mower as the blade was slowing down when I let go of the cut off lever on the mower and it cut my left foot just below my left big toe and crushed the big toe bone and nerves completely and had to have emergency surgery to clean it out and 5 more surgeries after that!
When did this injury occur?
June 16th 2010
How long was the recovery process?
Over 1 year and 4 months
What provided you the motivation and drive to press on through the difficult times after sustaining the injury?
All I could think of was my son and my family and work! I new I had to provide for my son and myself because I am the only parent left that my son has left because his mother past from lung cancer, so it was a no brainer that I had to stay positive in my recovery and work real hard to get back to work.
🙂 I love what I do at where I work as a { route driver and sales rep }and the company/family I work for 25 yrs believed in me to get back, thank you so much. Plus it is a true testament that with family and friends {most of all my son had to give up a lot of things to help Dad}and there prayers and God
🙂 I stayed positive ! I worked real hard to get back… but don’t get me wrong it wasn’t easy, ok I had my good and bad days/times with the pain and the process with all the surgeries! Just stay positive in life! Believe me Because I am BACK !!!!!!! 🙂
How did the injury you sustained shape your character in who you are today?
Most people know who I am 🙂 Fun, caring, joking, loving, trustworhty, giving back and paying forward when I used to coach/mentor my intercity kids in my neighborhood in sports! I have always been the same thru out my injury, but have renewed my belief in God though! I could of lost my life that day if I didn’t know what to do at that point! I could have laid there and bled out, but held my foot with pressure to cut off the the bleeding! Everybody at the hospital kept telling me that was the best thing I could have done ! So I have always been me a simple man working hard to raise my 14 yr old son to better his life as I have done for my other 2 sons who are grown and on there own and successful in life ! My character POSITIVE!
Since the injury, how has life changed for you?
I have since transferred to our Medical division and building a route together! I still miss the hospital side of our business though. Lol. Our medical division is less than a mile from my house 🙂 Plus I want to learn medical business part of that side! Its a bit easier though but dang lucky to be able to have a job and get back on the truck! I am blessed!
