Paul Wickham

What injury did you sustain?
I had a motor cycle accident. My left leg was crushed right above the ankle. The fibula was broke, the tibia was crushed just above the ankle as well as a fracture through the ankle joint.

When did this injury occur?
JUNE 4TH 2011

How long was the recovery process?
Six Months

What provided you the motivation and drive to press on through the difficult times after sustaining the injury?
I am very active and wanted to keep my leg and foot. I want to continue to live the life I enjoy.

How did the injury you sustained shape your character in who you are today?
I have had many injuries, cuts and bone fractures. this one was a humbling life changing experience as it was the first time that i may have been disabled to a point i could not continue to live independently and do the activities i enjoy such as hiking, golfing, cycling.

Since the injury, how has life changed for you?
I am a little more cautious, I am more sensitive to others that are not as fortunate as myself to have great health at 63. I have regained the full use of my leg. I am very grateful to Doctor Heddings, and the great staff at University of Kansas Medical Center. Everyone I met at the Hospital nurses and administrative staff seemed to like what they were doing and went out of their way to make the process as pleasant and painless as possible.
